Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas

For those with a bit of Christmas grief, step into The Old Globe Theatre this season as it’s transformed into a whimsical, snow-covered Whoville for Dr. Seuss’ meanie-turned-sweetie story. A Christmas Carol

For a more traditional Christmas show, A Christmas Carol can be seen this season at Costa Mesa’s South Coast Repertory Theatre. The traditional telling of Charles Dickens’s masterpiece brings 19th-century London to life on stage and reprises the story’s favorite characters, including Ebenezer Scrooge. An Irish Christmas

At Balboa Theatre, Kerry Records presents An Irish Christmas, Dec. 16th featuring joyful Gaelic music, dance and storytelling by Riverdance star Darren Maguire and members of the Kerry Dance Troupe, the Kerry Trad Orchestra and champion Irish dancers. The celebration of a Christmas evening in Ireland transposes with plenty of Irish soul. for more information.

The Nutcracker

The season’s most magical ballet returns, with dancing mice, soldiers, and the brought-to-life Nutcracker. The Civic Theatre hosts the California Ballet’s production Dec. 17th-23rd with live accompaniment by the San Diego Symphony and meet-the-cast parties in the theatre’s Grand Salon. Holiday Tree Lighting and Winter Wonderland

December 3rd marks the annual holiday tradition on Lyric Court and Great Green Lawn at Escondido California Center for the Arts, 4-8pm. The cost-free, family-friendly festivity features Victorian carolers, costumed entertainers, a special visit from Santa, free cookies and the gift of real snow. Visit for more information.

Holiday Pops Concert

Brought to us from the San Diego Symphony, vocalist John Pagano, the San Diego Master Chorale and the San Diego Children’s Chorus sing seasonal favorites at the Copley Symphony Hall. 17th Annual Holiday Concert

Hearken the heavenly sounds of brass, wind and percussion at the 17th Annual Holiday Concert, December 4th at 2pm at the Escondido California Center for the Arts. The yearly benefit presented by Meals-on-Wheels and the Coastal Communities Concert Band is $15, and has already raised and donated more than $100,000 to the meal-services charity. Festival of Christmas & An American Christmas

Hotel del Coronado presents two unique holiday shows, both produced by Lamb’s Players Theatre. Festival of Christmas runs Dec. 1st-30th and is continually re-scripted with a variety of locales and eras; An American Christmas running Dec. 11th-24th is a 1910 feast and celebration inside the ballroom, where music and dance are enjoyed during a five-course Christmas meal. Jingle Bell Rock: A Harmoniously Hysterical Holiday Hit!

The annual tradition and holiday favorite across America offers a night of comedy, featuring the music of winter time classics in acappella style. Sing along to “Let it Snow,” “Blue Christmas,” “O, Come All Ye Faithful,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and many more. Jesus Christ Superstar

For a more non-traditional holiday show, stop into the La Jolla Playhouse for the production of Jesus Christ Superstar, Nov.18th-Dec. 31st. This ground-breaking rock opera tells the story of the last week of Christ’s life with musical theatre for the modern age. The Wizard of Oz
