Fun Things to Do on 4th of July Weekend in San Diego

Independence Day Celebration in Coronado

Coronado does it big every year, and this year’s 4th of July is no exception. They’re calling in all patriotic people to join the fun, starting early in the morning. At 7am, the 37th Annual Independence Day 15K Run-5K Run/Walk kicks off with a race. Other events taking place around the island include Art in the Park, the 52nd Annual Rough Water Swim, the 63rd Annual Independence Day Parade, a concert in Spreckels Park, and final fireworks display over Glorietta Bay at 9pm. Red, White and BOOM! Celebration at LEGOLAND

For an all-ages good time, LEGOLAND California is your go-to stop to give the kids a 4th of July they’ll remember in years to come. This kick-off to summer brings a dazzling display of fireworks at 8:30pm and blends patriotic music with incredible pyrotechnics. Throughout the day, kids of all ages are invited to enjoy family picnic games such as the water-balloon toss, burlap sack races and paper airplane contests. The kids and adults alike won’t leave the park without hearing some live music, performed at 5:30pm and 7:30pm. Get details!


Maritime Museum Cruise at the Maritime Museum

For an authentic location to watch the bay fireworks, hop aboard the observation deck of the Maritime Museum’s historic 1898 steam ferry, Berkeley. The uncanny view of the fireworks over the San Diego Bay is provided with museum admission. Guests are welcome to watch fireworks from several ships, as well as the new mooring platform. The museum is also offering a fireworks cruise on board the schooner Californian, to leave the museum at 6:30pm and return after the fireworks show is over. Independence Day at Old Town

Take a wagon ride into old fashioned times, with a parade, crafts, and activities revisiting the early years of San Diego. Wagon rides, period games, music, food specials, a pie eating contest and much more included all afternoon long. Everyone is bound to enjoy the travel back in time as Old Town reminds San Diego of its roots and gets the entire family involved in the celebration of American independence. Escondido Independence Day Celebration at Grape Day Park

This annual 4th of July celebration invites the community for a festive afternoon of picnicking in the park while enjoying live entertainment, free art activities, and games. The event will conclude with a dazzling fireworks display in Grape Day Park at approximately 9pm. Performers scheduled to take the stage include popular modern folk and acoustic rock musician, Kevin Danzig, The Hats, The Center Master Chorale, and the Marine Band. Get details!


La Jolla Cove Concert and Fireworks

The La Jolla fireworks festivities kick off at 5pm with a summer concert at Ellen Browning Scripps Park, featuring a trombonist and Marine Corp band. For late arrivals, join in at 9pm when fireworks will blast off from the nearby La Jolla Cove, just behind the concert bandstand. There are plenty of hot spots along La Jolla to catch a glimpse of the fireworks, including La Jolla Shores, and Kellogg Park. Make a day of it and enjoy some time in the lavish bends of the La Jolla cove.


2011 Big Bay Boom Fireworks Show by the Port of San Diego

The 11th Annual Big Bay Boom July 4th Fireworks Show is back with a bang. Hovering over San Diego Bay, the fireworks will burst with bright lights around the strategically placed points, including Shelter Island, Harbor Island, Embarcadero North, Seaport Village, Embarcadero South Marina Park, Coronado Ferry Landing and Imperial Beach. San Diego County Fair Fireworks Display

Enjoy the last day of the San Diego County Fair with an all-American display of patriotic activities and illuminating fireworks. The day at the fair will kick off with a patriotic Opening Ceremony around 9:30am at the O’Brien Gate. Later in the day, the Grandstand Stage show will fire up at 7:30 PM with the talented Navy Band Southwest, a 4th of July tradition since 1993. Fireworks will follow at 9pm and REO Speedwagon will keep the party going for the remainder of the night. Get details here!


Ocean Beach Fireworks Display

For a more laid back vibe to kick-back and view the light show in, the Ocean Beach fireworks will be launched from the end of Ocean Beach Pier, starting at 9pm. The best spots for ultimate viewing are from the adjacent beach, but you’ll want to get there early to get in before the pier closes to the public at 7pm. The event is set to the live radio 103.7FM Sophie and gives locals a great excuse to spend their day relaxing in Ocean Beach.


Hornblower Fireworks Dinner Cruise Celebration

A classic way to celebrate the fourth, away from the massive crowds is aboard a Hornblower Cruise. You’ll enjoy some of the best views of the fireworks over the bay and be as closer to the Big Bay Boom than anyone else. The dinner cruise will include up-close views over the bay, a specialty boarding beverage in a souvenir Hornblower glass, DJ hosted entertainment, and delectable food tasting stations. The ship boards at 6:30pm on the 4th of July and cruises the bay for 3 hours. Get tickets here!
